Ciliates (ciliated protozoans) • Live in freshwater, saltwater and soil (moist). • Most are free-living heterotophs • Cilia used for motility, in directing food toward an oral cavity or both. • As symbionts/parasites with other organisms • Eat bacteria, algae and one another • E.g. Paramecium : freshwater species
