  2. JSSPVA OVERVIEW • 19 on JSSPVA Board, 40 led subcommittees. Focus is enrichment opportunities. • Fundraising: Benefit, Turkey Trot, Book Fair • Enrichment: New enrichment programs; World Link China was a huge success -jùdà de chénggōng (巨大的成功);Creative Dramatics returned and added 2nd session • Operations: Combined Directory with school handbook; moved Sports Recognition to Booster Club; delivered Census on time; wrote job descriptions for all roles; school supplies; Lost & Found; Sears Café ; Communications; Student Pictures; Volunteers; Finance and JSSPVA Administration • Guest Speakers: Arranged NT Superintendent visit to PVA meeting; DevorahHeitner on Digital Citizenship • Faculty Support: Fine Arts provided gifts to conductors/directors for first time; Staff Appreciation lunches; Room Parent coordination; Library volunteer coordination • Beautification: Outdoor Classroom; Earth Day; Display Case, Grounds Group • Activities:Family Fun Day free to Sears families; Diversity Awareness; 85 in chess. • Parent Support: Math in Focus sessions; Coordinated Tours of NTHS for all Sears families; Skate Exchange; 2 Newcomers events • Liaisons: Community Liaison; New Trier, NSSED, Alliance for Early Childhood; 21st Century Skills; FAN 2

  6. Vice President • Book Fair Raised $3,750.24 for the LTC in the Fall. (Spring Book Fair currently in progress.) • Turkey Trot Invited Gilbert Tuhabonye to as a guest speaker and raised $4,500 for the Gazelle Foundation. • Sears Directory Worked with school over the summer to combine the Sears Directory and school calendar and had it ready by first day of school • Environmental Organized Walk or Bike to School week, recycling during lunch time, Earth Week activities, and worked with Planet Panther on theTrexRecylcing project. • Staff Appreciation Provided several meals and treats to faculty and staff during conferences and a week of special pampering for teachers this spring. • Census Organized volunteers to go door to door throughout Village to obtain current resident information to update and provide for the school district for enrollment projection and current mailing lists for district communications. 6

  10. Communications – Julie Ruck • Held two Parent Forums: • Singapore Math Forum in the Fall: two sessions, one for daytime and one at night. Included presentation from accredited Singapore Math consultant and parent/teacher breakout sessions for learning specific methods. • Raising Digital Natives in the Spring: one daytime session. Hired a professional consultant to present and discuss with parents the best way to navigate our children through this ever changing technological world. • Collected weekly content from Sears School Community for submission in StH. • I worked with school to create a weekly deadline for StH, instead of a monthly one. Much easier for all to remember and submit content. I also proofed a weekly draft version of StH to ensure all submitted and approved content made it in that week's edition. 10

  11. Past Treasurer – Alison Fitzgerald • Completed Audit and tax returns, 1099s • Renewed Insurance ($500 savings from last year) • Event insurance is not included in our Liability policy • Certificate of Liability insurance • Upcoming: File Annual Report with state • Benefit Treasurer 11

World Link: China – Cris Guthrie, Maria Yen • Planned Three festivals: Autumn Moon Festival, Chinese New Year and Dragon Boat (will take place in June) • Brought in performance groups and traditional food items • Incorporated Chinese cultural and history lessons into most classrooms and specials • Worked with Third grade teachers to arrange field trip to Chinatown as part of immigration unit • Introduced Mandarin lessons at lunch & after school • UNIQUE TO CHINA YEAR: Hosted Shu Wei, a scholar from China who was instrumental in making World Link-China successful 12

  13. Nominating – Kate Peterson • Created a committee of 8 to slate next year's JSSPVA • Slated next year's JSSPVA • Found 8th Grade Room Parent Coordinators 13

  14. New Trier Liaison – Linda Genty • Communication of key dates for 8thgraders • NT Renovations • Communication to Board on NT-sponsored events – academic, athletic and social 14

  15. FAN – Kelly Rainey • JSSPVA made its annual donation to FAN of $1,600.  The JSSPVA is one of 2 New Trier feeder districts that give the largest monetary support to FAN. • District 38 sponsored 4 FAN events this year – Adam Grant, Sian Beilock, Alice Waters and Carol Dweck.  15

Sears Café – Paige Hopkins, Lori Roeser • 5 day a week lunch option for student body • On-line ordering with ability to cancel and update orders • Parent volunteers eliminated in lunch room • Menu items made from scratch with organic ingredients • Zero-waste kitchen and minimal food packaging • Student and parent surveys conducted 16

  17. Secretary – Kris Whisner • Recorded 32,952 words in the Minutes over the past 8 PVA meetings. • This year we requested that Chairs submit their reports in advance of the meetings which significantly improved the quality and accuracy of the Minutes. 17

  18. Community Liaison – Mindy Douthit • Attended Board of Education, Booster Club and other community meetings and share key events with PVA • Main objective of this role is to help ensure “the right hand is aware of what the left hand is doing” • Able to raise questions that help address inconsistencies or overlap across various organizations  • This year moved Sports Banquets from PVA budget/responsibility to Booster Club 18
