  1. POST SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTION (PSEO) Information Session

  2. STUDENTS MAY PARTICIPATE IN TWO WAYS: • OPTION A Allows the public, community or nonpublic high school student to choose, upon enrollment, college credit or both high school and college credit. In this case, the cost of the program is funded entirely by the students family. • OPTION B allows the student to receive both high school and college credit. For public high school and community school students, there is no transfer of tuition between student and college. The high school’s state foundation will pay the college directly. (i.e. The school pays for tuition & books.)

  3. GPA AND CLASS RANK • College courses for high school credit will be completed at the non-weighted level, as are all Preble Shawnee classes • College courses are included in the grade point average and class rank.

  4. CREDIT CONVERSIONS • 1-2 hours = ¼ credit • 3 hours = ½ credit • 4 hours = ¾ credit • 5 hours = 1 credit

  5. TRANSPORTATION • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the college.

  6. PARTICIPATION IN PREBLE SHAWNEE ACTIVITIES • Students are still enrolled at Preble Shawnee and are considered high school students. • Students may participate in any extracurricular activities. • Scheduling may be difficult.

  7. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • Graduation requirements remain the same for PSEO students. • Check the credit conversion chart carefully. • No graduation requirements will be waved.

  8. IMPORTANT DATES • March 30 Intent to participate form due in to the Guidance Office (Mr. Godfrey). • April 13 ACT Test (Registration Deadline March 8 March 23 with a late fee) {Optional} • May 1 Enrollment Deadline for MUM & Sinclair. • May 4 SAT Test (Registration Deadline April 5 April 19 with a late fee ) {Optional} • June 29 Accuplacer and ACT submission scores must be submitted to Sinclair for fall classes. • November 1 Enrollment Deadline for MUM & Sinclair (Spring)

  9. BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION • No cost college credit • Expanded course selection • Course work receives both high school and college credit. • Opportunity for additional education and college/career planning • Gain familiarity with college experience.

RISKS OF PARTICIPATION • Increased responsibility for learning. • Possible increased financial obligation. • College courses affect GPA. • Increased time needed for travel and study. • Reduced opportunities or time for Preble Shawnee activities. • Uncertainty of scheduling classes. • The university may hold classes when Preble Shawnee is closed due to weather.

  11. SCHEDULING • Scheduling of PSEO courses are done through the university. • Student and Preble Shawnee counselor work out a schedule which accommodates college courses and high school classes.

COURSE LOAD • PSEO students must take sufficient courses to be full time students. • Combination of college courses & high school courses to equal full time status. • A maximum of credits equivalent to 1 academic year. (7 Carnegie units) • High School course reduction for each college course taken. (1 course = 1 study hall)

  13. COURSE COMPLETION • Students who fail or withdraw from college courses will receive no credit for the course. • If a student fails or withdraws past the college’s deadline, the students family is responsible for all tuitions and fees. • College text books must be returned to the course instructor. There will be a cost for lost or damaged books.

MUM REQUIREMENTS FOR FRESHMAN • Superior academic performance. • Letter of recommendation from a teacher in the subject in which the student wishes to take a PSEO course. • 3.25 GPA • ACT composite score of 21 or an SAT score of 1000. {Optional} • Place “college ready” in Reading and in either Math or English on the COMPASS assessment test. • Limited to one class per semester.

  15. MUM REQUIREMENTS FOR SOPHOMORES • Completion of 5 of 16 state minimum college preparatory units. (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Fine Arts) • 3.25 Cumulative GPA • ACT score of 21 or an SAT score of 1000. {Optional} • Place “college ready” in Reading and in either Math or English on the COMPASS assessment test. • Letter of recommendation for course taken • Limited to one class per semester.

MUM REQUIREMENTS FOR JUNIORS • Completion of 9 of the 16 state minimum preparatory units. • 3.25 cumulative GPA • ACT score of 21 or an SAT score of 1000. {Optional} • Place “college ready” in Reading and in either Math or English on the COMPASS assessment test. • No limit on classes. Recommend 1 class the first semester if first time PSEO student.

MUM REQUIREMENTS FOR SENIORS • Completion of 13 of the 16 state minimum preparatory units. • 3.25 GPA • ACT score of 21 or an SAT score of 1000. {Optional} • Place “college ready” in Reading and in either Math or English on the COMPASS assessment test. • No limit on classes. Recommend 1 class the first semester if first time PSEO student.

  18. Sinclair Requirements • Students must take Accuplacer college placement tests in reading, writing/sentence skills, and math* to determine eligibility. They must test into college level in writing and reading to be accepted in the PSEO Program. (*Math testing is required once, but optional a second time if math courses will not be taken.) • ACT and Accuplacer scores may be combined to determine eligibility to the PSEO program, however official scores must be sent to Sinclair from ACT to be considered. • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 • 3.0 in the subject area taken. ie. English, Math, etc
