  1. Term 1: Lesson 3 Settling In

  2. Miriam and Moses and Mum Miriam was happy because she had a new little baby brother.

  3. She was sad because her mammy said that they could not be able to keep him. The king didn’t allow Miriam’s people to keep their baby boys.

  4. ‘We just have to do something’, Miriam cried. ‘We must make a plan’, she said to her mother.

  5. Miriam and her mother made a special basket to keep the baby safe and warm.

  6. They wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in the basket because they could not keep him in the house with them.

  7. They took the baby to the River Nile and hid him in in his basket among the tall rushes where no one would find him.

  8. Then Miriam’s mother told her to hide nearby and keep watch over her little brother.

  9. It was a hot day and after a short time the king’s daughter and her servants came to swim in the river. The princess saw the basket and sent one of her servants to bring it to her.

  10. The princess looked at the baby . ‘She felt sorry for him. ‘I must find someone to look after him’, she said.

  11. Miriam jumped out of the bushes and shouted: ‘My mother is very good at minding babies; I could go and get her for you if you like’.

  12. That’s a good idea. Your mother could mind him for me. I must give him a name. I will call him Moses because that name means that he was drawn out of the water.

  13. Miriam took her baby brother home so that her mother could look after him.

  14. Miriam and her mother were very happy. They had their baby home again. ‘Thank God’, they said.
