Presente perfecto El pretérito o El imperfecto • Uses two verbs: Has/Have + participle 2) Expresses an action that began in the past and continues into the present, or continues to affect the present. 3) Is frequently used with the adverbs “ya” which means “already” and “yet”. • Uses one verb • Expresses an action that happened in the past. • The imperfect and preterit are often distinguished by accompanying phrases like “todos los días” or “la semanapasada”.

Add –ado, -ido or –ido Examples: HABLAR – AR + ADO = hablado (spoken) COMER – ER + IDO = comido (eaten) VIVIR – IR + IDO =vivido (lived) ** if stem ends in a vowel, you need an accent: CREER – ER + IDO =creído (believed)

  5. BCV: before conjugated verb • Conjugation of haber and participle can not be separated. • Reflexive pronouns, “no” must be placed BCV. • (Ya me he duchado.) • (No me he duchadoya.) Adverbs (“ya”, “todavía”) can be placed BCV or after the participle
