  3. About me • This was my 2nd grade classroom! • My husband, Jeremy, and I graduated from Windom High School. We have 2 children, Madison and Bryce, and a dog, Mazie. • I earned my undergraduate degree from Augustana University and my graduate degree from Southwest State University. • This is my 19th year of teaching. • I enjoy reading, cooking, sewing, camping, and playing games with my family.

  4. I will send home a paper lunch bag the week before. • Fill the bag according to the directions. • Send photos!

  5. Food/Milk • Quarterly Milk $10.00 ($40.00 for the year) • Breakfast $.95 • Reduced Breakfast – Free • Lunch $2.45 • Reduced Lunch – Free • Extra Milk/or Home lunch $.35 • Margo can answer any questions you may have.

  6. Snack Bag • Class snack bags will be sent home as needed. When you receive the snack bag, please fill it with snacks (enough for 20 students or more) and return it to school as soon as possible. • Suggestions: crackers, pretzels, fruit, cereal, cheese, etc. (Anything healthy that would be good with milk.) NO CANDY PLEASE. • Send new packages or boxes only.

  7. Birthdays • Summer birthdays will be celebrated as their ½ birthday! • Birthday treats must be store bought items only -- no homemade treats. • Birthday invitations may NOT be delivered at school. This causes hurt feelings; please send them by mail.

  8. Classroom Parties • We will have three classroom parties. • Fall Festival (Oct. 31) • Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) • Christmas (Dec. 22)

  9. Communication • Communication with you is very important. • Make sure I get your email address today. • I send out a newsletter each month. • Emails will be sent out with reminders and other information. You may also sign up for the Remind app to receive texts. • We will use Seesaw for students’ work examples. • My Webpage

  14. Book orders • Sent home monthly • Our class receives free books when parents order. • Order Online with a credit card or pay by CHECK (make payable to Scholastic ~ NO CASH please) • Seal check/order in envelope with student’s name on it.

  15. Home Folders • Please check and send back and forth to school each day • Use a separate bag for snow pants and boots • Leave at Home and Return to School pockets

  16. 2nd grade practice • Practice math facts • Practice spelling words and sight words • Read at home every night • After an absence, I will send home any make-up work to be completed and returned • Practice any skills that need extra attention for your child

(*We will have our 1st spelling test after the first couple weeks of school.)

  19. Virtual snow days • Your child will get a 2nd Grade BINGO Board in his/her EAGLE Binder before this winter. • All activities on a virtual snow day are able to be completed without an internet connection • Work completed by students is due within 2 school days (after the virtual snow days).

  20. Standards-Based Grading • 3 point scale: 3 = meets the standard. 2 = needs support/practice. 1 = just beginning/needs a lot of support.4s are occasionally earned for excelling at a skill. • Behavior grading rubric: • Respect (for self, others, feelings, and property) • Self-control • Gives effort/quality work • Follows directions

  21. PBIS – Eagle Pride! • Winfair is a PBIS school, which means we have a school-wide system to focus on positive behavior in the classroom and throughout the rest of the school. • Eagle Pride cards • Monday Morning Meeting

  22. Collections • Please collect and send to school: • Box Tops • Campbell’s Soup labels ~ UPC codes only • Godfather’s fedora hats • Pop Tabs – Free Happy Meals will be delivered to classroom winners in the spring! 

  23. Bus Schedule • Please check the bus schedule with Kevin Heggeseth by the office and make any changes. • Please send a note or email if your child will be going somewhere different. No note will mean your child will go home the usual way.

  24. Medication • All medications must go through our school nurse, Amy McNamara. • A doctor’s order is needed for any child to stay in for recess as well as physical education.

  25. Contact Information • Contact the Winfair Office to notify school if your student will be absent or tardy by email (slyons@isd177.comand rgreen@isd177.com) or call 831-6925. If we have not been notified, the office will call you if your child does not arrive. • Please check in with the secretary at the window by the office before coming to our classroom (this is for security purposes). • Written excuses (notes or email) are needed for the following: • Going somewhere else after school. Without a note, the student will go home the usual way. • If you plan to take your child out of school early for any reason. • We appreciate notes/emails when you know about the changes instead of waiting until the end of the day when possible.

  27. School pictures are October 26-27 during Fall conferences.. • Please make sure that I take your picture today for our classroom projects. • Family pictures will be displayed in our classroom. We hope to build a “family” here and create an environment that is safe and welcoming. Please send a 4x6 or 5x7 photo in a frame.
