Agent SDK starts Checks for the environment variable - ECC_AGENT_DOMAIN Ex: ECC_AGENT_DOMAIN=corp.emc.com Yes Use this setting for the Host domain name No Fetch Host Name System call – gethostname( ) Fetch Host Name System call – gethostname( ) Provide Host & FQDN to the Agent and ControlCenter (Slide 5) Follow host service order for host resolution Hosts: dns files AIX & HP-UX – /etc/irs.conf Solaris – /etc/nsswitch.conf Linux – /etc/host.conf Windows – System Properties Go to slide 5 Any change to nsswitch.conf will require a restart of the inet service Go to slide 3

Fetch a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain name) Follow host service order for host resolution Hosts: dnsnis files For dns For nis For files Uses this - etc/hosts Searches for the hostname after the IP-Address. This must be a FQDN after the IP-Address. This file is ignored if the host names I found without a FQDN after the IP-Address Uses this - etc/resolv.conf Domain corp.emc.com Nameserver 172.23.134.114 Verifies the hostname using nslookup to get the FQDN Verifies the hostname using nslookup to get the FQDN Yes Is Host FQDN is fetched? For Windows Stop all agents on the host Uses the DNS suffix for this computer in System Properties On the host, delete the COMFILE Unix - /var/ECC Windows - \winnt\ecc Delete the host from the Console Provide Host & FQDN to the Agent and ControlCenter Start the Master Agent on the Host Did the Host appear in the console as hostname(1)? Validate the Host is discovered correctly in the Console Done
