  2. “Those who mourn” • It’s not depression. • It’s not disappointment over material loss. • It’s not resentment over injured feelings. • It’s not remorse for uncovered sin. • It’s not self-pity.

  3. “Those who mourn” • Sorrowful for sins, because they are against the will of God. • A congregation (2 Cor 7:10) • A King (Psalms 34:18) • Gospel responders (Acts 2:37-38) • An apostle of Christ (Rom 7:18-25)

  4. “Those who mourn” • Sorrowful for the sins of others. • Lincoln: “I am sorry for the man who cannot feel the whip when it is laid on the other man’s back.” • 2 Peter 2:7 - He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men

  5. “Those who mourn” • Sorrowful for the sins of others. • Jesus wept at the tomb (John 11:35) • Jesus wept for Jerusalem (Luke 19:41-44) • “Man of sorrows, acquainted w/ grief” (Isa 53:3) • He mourned sin & sinners (Rom 6:23; 3:23)

  6. “Comforted” • The Holy Spirit is the comforterby His word. • Sins forgiven (Acts 2:38; Eph 1:7) • Saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8-10) • Anticipating the Lord’s return (Rev 16:13)

  7. “Comforted” • The Holy Spirit is the comforterby His word. • Heaven…a place for all the saved (John 14:2) • …a place of rest (Heb 4:9-11; Rev 14:13) • …a safe place (Matt 6:19-20) • …a sorrow-less place (Rev 21:4) • …a place to see the Lord (1 John 3:2)

  8. Mourning will lead to comfort as we confess our sins to the Father.
