  2. The Story Of His Life • Fisk was born in Pownal, Vermont, in Bennington County, 1835. After a brief period of school, he ran away in 1850 and joined Van Amberg's Mammoth Circus & Menagerie. Later, he became a hotel waiter, and finally adopted the business of his father, a peddler. He applied what he learned in the circus to his peddling and grew his father's business. He then became a salesman for Jordan Marsh, a Boston dry goods firm. A failure as a salesman, he was sent to Washington, D.C., in 1861 to sell textiles to the government.

  3. How He Acquired His Wealth James Fisk became rich by selling cotton from areas of the South controlled by Union forces. After the war, Fisk, Gould, and Daniel Drew made huge profits by using the stock of the Erie Railroad.

  4. How He Treated His Workers • He had many jobs so he gave many people work to do so they can get payed and feed their families. It may have been hard work, but it is better than no work.

  5. How He Spent/ Donated His Money • He spent his money by creating Fisk university to educate newly free blacks. He also bought an opera house.

  6. Why He Was Better Than The Other “Robber Barons” • He helped donate money to construct a school to educate newly free blacks. So it shows how he cares about the people and he wants to help society

  7. Was He a Captain Of Industry Or A Robber Baron? • Jim Fisk was a captain of industry. He provided with jobs an helped educated people. He provided money and education for people. Jim also created Black Friday
