  3. Project Background • Federal Funding through NHTSA • The FAST Act in FY17 created new 405(h) Nonmotorized Safety Grant program • Annual combined pedestrian & bicycle fatalities exceed 15% of total annual crash fatalities per FARS • Michigan awarded: • $921,741 for FY17 • $911,340 for FY18

  4. Project Background • Section 405(h) funding • Law Enforcement Training on pedestrian and bicycle safety laws • Law Enforcement Mobilization of pedestrian and bicycle safety laws • Public Education on pedestrian and bicycle safety laws • 20% local match (in kind) of total project budget
