ICT Issues • Types of issues: • Social issues • Arise when the use of ICT by people impacts on other people, eg. inappropriate comments about someone on a social networking site • Ethical issues • Impact of use of ICT by someone causes “harm” to another; eg. companies have an ethical obligation to ensure the privacy of data they store about customers • Legal issues • Environmental issues

ICT Issues • Types of issues: • Legal issues • When the use of ICT conflicts with the law enacted by government, eg. making copies of music CDs for friends is against the law and is also an ethical issue • Environmental issues • Use of ICT results in conflict between the environment and the natural environment, eg. impact of e-waste, monitors, etc.

Computer gaming • Computer addiction • Generally regarded as social issues • Significant health problem, can lead to internet addiction disorder, (IAD) • Consequences of addiction can be extreme, eg. family breakups, job loss, dropping out of school • Symptoms of addition include: • Users crave computer time • Unable to stop computer activity • Neglect family and friends

  5. Computer gaming • Unsuitable games • Games containing a significant amount of violence, women in a demeaning manner, etc. • Games MMORPGs, (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), run on a client-server network, local or using the internet

  6. Computer Gaming • games computers need more capabilities and capacities than a normal computer because they are graphics intensive which requires more speed and memory • Computer gaming is regarded to have significant educational advantages
