  5. Hard Mandatory Generic • The member is responsible for the payment differential when a generic drug is available and the patient or physician elects to purchase a brand name drug. The member payment is the price difference between the generic and the brand name, in addition to deductible, copayment or coinsurance amounts which apply. • The payment differential does not accumulate towards the deductible or total out-of-pocket maximum. • There is a pharmacy policy where the payment differential between the brand and generic drug will be waived in certain situations where appropriate and consistent with state regulations (certain drugs, illnesses, adverse events or serious allergic reactions). $10 Generic Drug Cost $250 Brand Drug Cost $240 Payment Differential
