  1. Outer core • Melissa Fraser, • Kelsey Noth, • Skye Ryan, • Alexys Kauer, • Isabella Huetter, & • Nick Morelli

  2. The Degrees of the Outer Core The outer core is 4,000°F.The layer is molten.

  3. How Deep is the Outer Core and Where is the Outer Core Located? The outer core is about 3,000 miles below the surface and about 1,400 miles thick. The outer core is above the core and the mantle. The outer core 1,400 miles deep Inner core Mantle Crust

  4. How and Who Discovered the Outer Core? • The outer core was discovered in 1906 by R.D Oldham. • The outer core was the first internal structural element to be discovered. • The outer core was discovered by earthquake records. This is an example of an earthquake record.

  5. What is the Outer Core Made Out of? 3,000 miles beneath the surface, lies the very hot outer core. The outer core is a hot liquid mixture of iron and nickel that is always moving. If we did not have this layer life would be very different. This is because scientists think that this layer creates the Earth’s magnetic field. This is possible because the hot core makes the outer core hot which makes the liquid turn faster which makes it create seismic waves. Here is a diagram of how the outer core is turned into the Earth’s magnetic field.

  6. Fun Facts • The outer core is 30.8% of the Earth’s mass. • The outer core has traces of oxygen inside the hot liquid mixture of iron and nickel. • The outer core takes up about 16% of the volume of the Earth. • The air pressure is 3.7 million times greater then the air pressure on the Earth’s crust!
