  1. Future Funding Commission First Baptist Church Agawam, Massachusetts

  2. We have an urgent need to raise capital for the church. • First, there are material and physical needs. • Second, we must enhance our ministry to the community. • Third, we can contribute to greater American Baptist mission goals.

  3. The fourth objective of capital funds is to supplement our endowment.

  4. Our building was designed to efficiently serve our congregation

  5. Our numbers have gotten smaller ..while the need for resources has grown

  6. The fabric of our building is getting old. The Property Committee is facing other serious issues.

  7. Some issues to consider: • Heating system is outdated and inefficient; • The need for a handicap bathroom is ever increasing; • The telephone system is not up to date; • Our windows need replacing to save energy; • A 15 passenger van would enhance & expand our ministries; • New audio system in Bodurtha Hall would improve its marketability; • Carpets are wearing out; • The roof over the sanctuary needs replacing;

  8. Simply put - Our Aim is to: Do things that position us to bring the community to the church, and bring the church to the community!

  9. We have a large building which enables us to: • Offer programs such asEnglish as a Second Language tutoring • Provide space for Service club projects We’d like to increase our programs • Community response trailer • Music programs/performances • Food pantry • After school programs

We have a long history of mission. • It connects us to God’s work in America and around the world. • It joins us with other American Baptists. • It reminds us of Christ’s call to us. • Participating in mission is faithful to Jesus Christ. • And we continue to aspire to finding new opportunities

  11. The State of our endowment 396K at 12/31/07 down to 176K at 9/30/2009

  12. The Future Funding Commission • Commissioned by Church Council • Had first meeting the end of August • A commission for 3 years • Develops strategies for addressing the future needs of our church

  13. The Goals of the FFC • To raise funds and in-kind donations • for our building • for new ministries • mission outreach • to increase the endowment

  14. The Method of the FFC • Identify specific goals in the 4 areas:Building, Ministry, Mission, Endowment. • Identify opportunities for partnerships with businesses and individuals • Identify foundations & write grants. • Look for donations “in kind”.

  15. Other Tasks • Learn how to write grants. • Get training in building partnerships. • Develop a vision for the whole church. • Express enthusiasm for our ministries. • Produce a professional pamphlet. • “Tell the story” of our church.

  16. Goals and Objectives • The goal is $500,000 to be received over the next 6 years. • This is over and above the pledges and other funds we normally receive. • Non-monetary donations will enhance our progress towards the goal.

  17. Allocation of Gifts • 40% for building and equipment, • 10% for programs in local ministry, • 10% for the wider mission, • 40% for increasing the endowment.

  18. Future Funding Commission Needs • Your prayers and encouragement. • develop and print a brochure. • grant writing course for two or three people. • publicity and advertisement. • Your ideas for community partners • Your assistance and prayers.
