The Academic Year – PGCAP Prototype Board Game Aim To create a group developed prototype board game that visually evidences ‘What good Teaching Looks Like?’ for whom (audience?) how it could be used, developed further? create opportunities for dialogue about learning and teaching? Informal CPD for programme teams, module teams but also engage students? Objectives Players will take on the role of either Tutor or Student in order to explore the different Zones, co-constructing knowledge and earning counters for activities that strengthen the tutor –student relationship. Whilst the players move through the Academic Year they can move freely between the zones. The winner is ………………….? Planning Induction Module Delivery Assessment Feedback • Prompts for Content Generation within each zone • What happens in this Zone - How does Good Teaching look? start by discussing what occurs in this zone. What • do the Teacher and Student Players do in this zone? • Zone Cards – create content that evidences :learning and teaching strategy, Pose questions for discussion, Select quotes from literature that identify good practice. • Activity Cards-Identify activities that occur in this zone, for example group field trip, what is seen as good practice. How does it support peer learning? • How do you collect counters – counters are rewards that will be added up at the end of the game • Support Cards – Generate cards that identify additional support (for staff/students) / withdrawal of that support • (for example introduce a new online application/ Workshop Demonstrators hours cut) • Evaluation Cards – Generate cards that enable evaluation questions. • Governance Cards – Academic Portfolio Review, Strategic Plan, PSF, QAA?

  3. Workshop Structure The PGCAP cohort to split into 5 groups (how? rationale? random? mixing up teams? could we also invite some students, 5 in total, one in each group? Each Group discusses what teaching and learning interventions and good practice should Occur within their zone Each group will create context for a Zone using the Prompts provided All five zones get placed on to the larger group board and the cohort discuss how the Players would navigate the board and decide on strategy and criteria for winning If there is time a trial version of the game is carried out – this could also be done during our session with Huw Morris could you join us? -yes Sam Ingleson will then take the prototype and refine the content and synchronize the look of the game. The Revised version (version 1) will then be made available for PGCAP Students to test out with Students or programme teams. The game will thereafter be refined further and played with the next PGCAP cohort but also trialed with a Programme Team.
