  3. Dilemma-difficult choice I had a dilemma when I had to choose between UCLA and USC.

  4. Grimace-twisted face He had a grimace on his face when he fell down in pain.

  5. Undeniable-without a doubt It’s an undeniable fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. He lives on the East Coast.

  6. Sophistication-quality of being worldly The student writes with increased levels of sophistication in language arts.

  7. Sarcasm-sneering or cutting remark I used sarcasm when I told my ugly sister that she was as beautiful as our dog.

  8. Crucial-critical; vital; very important It’s crucial that you take your insulin if you want to prevent a diabetic coma.

  9. medicinal-healing The medicinal herbs were used to cure my infection.

  10. Seething-being disturbed I was seething after someone stole my phone; I wanted to beat someone up.

  14. Acknowledging means admitting to be true I acknowledged that I was 52 even though I had lied earlier telling people I was 72.

  15. Complementing means completing Vanilla ice cream complements apple pie.

  16. Considerate means thoughtful The benign nurse was considerate of my feelings, making sure I felt comfortable, so I didn’t cry so loud when she have me a shot..

  18. Conviction means strong belief The teacher’s conviction was that all students could learn and be successful, for he had seen all students improve.

  19. Customary means usual It’s customary to eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day.

  20. Decidedly- means without question Decidedly he chose the bachelorette and never changed his mind.

  21. Distinctly means without question Ex, I distinctly remember you telling me this. I am decidedly sure you told me this.

  22. Exasperation means extreme annoyance The teacher felt exasperation when the class would not settle down.

  23. Inscription means words engraved on a hard surface He had an inscription written on the tombstone that read, “There goes the neighborhood”.

  24. Insistent means continuing to make a firm demand She was insistent that I had to use blue or black ink on my passport form; I could not persuade her that pencil would be allowed.

  25. Insolent means boldly rude The insolent baby burped at the table and then spit up her food.

  26. Significance-means importance What is the significance of a wedding ring questioned the frugal man.

  27. Torture means cause great pain Many Jews and prisoners of war were tortured before being killed during the Holocaust.

  39. Departure- ant. arrival The arrival was suppose to be at 8, but the departure turned out to be at 10.

  40. inconsolable-antonym-calm I was inconsolable when I lost my favorite child, but I became calm when I found her. I was inconsolable when I failed the quiz, but I calmed down by eating and eating and eating.

  41. Misshapen- ant.- perfect; def. out of shape; distorted; Winnie the Pooh has a misshapen belly, but he is still perfect for me. His head is misshapen, yet he is still perfect for me.

  42. Remotely-ant. considerably remote/considerate I was only remotely interested in the ugly boy, but I was considerably interested in the hot guy. I was remotely interested in English class, but I was considerably interested in math class.

  43. Commitment-antonym- indifference I had a commitment to my 6th grade boyfriend, yet he was indifferent and dated my best friend.

  44. Explicit means clear- ant. Vague, unclear I hoped the directions would be explicit, yet they…. The directions to the park were explicit, but the directions to the movie theatre were vague and unclear.
