  1. AMBER status and next runs F. Malbet/R. Petrov

  2. AMBER status • ALL HARDWARE IS INTALLED: • AMBER table with J, H, K, fibers and optics • Atmospheric Dispersion Compensator • Beam Commuting Device • Commissioning runs: 5 nights on UTs • Mainly performances for COM1 • Mainly search for low visibilities in COM2

  3. AMBER run history (2004-2005)

  4. AMBER offered to the community • LR-HK with K<=7 • MR-K with K<=4 • Open time observations started in October 2005 • First CfP in March 2005: • 48 proposals (incl. 7 GTO proposals) • 22 accepted and scheduled (incl.2 GTO) • Second CfP in October 2005: • 34 proposals (incl. 2 GTO proposals) • OPC has not decided yet

  5. AMBER Hardware • Stability • New screws have been installed on some translating stages (less hysteresis, more accurate,…) • Some support have changed • Base plates to be cut? Does not seem to be a problem anymore (?) • Fibers • Problem in August (?) • Fibers not responsible • New set of fibers to be ordered • Beam Commuting Device (BCD) • To be aligned(?) • Dewar to be opened?

  6. AMBER software • Operational at once in Medium Resolution • Some difficulties with Low Resolution • Grating wheel positioning • Spectral shifts between beams • Working in J, H and K simultaneousy • Fringe SNR is working both in MR & LR • Need to update amdlib (cf. Gérard & Evelyne) • Data reduction is converging

  7. Commissioning • Not enough runs to commission AMBER • COM1: AMBER running + first performances • COM2: looking for origin of low visibilities • TEC2: paranalization • Need of Commissioning for: • All spectral modes (J, H, K and HR) • ADC validation • Limiting magnitudes and performances

  8. AMBER results • GTO: • MWC 297: Malbet et al., A&A in press • Gamma Vel: Petrov et al., in prep. • Eta Car: Weigelt et al., in prep. • HD 104237: Tatulli et al., in prep. • HD 50013: Stee et al., in prep. • Exoplanets... • SDT: • CPD -57 4528: Domicinao et al., A&A in press • Alfa Arae: Meilland et al., in prep. • Sigma Orionis: Hummel -> de Wit • Other publications: • AMBER presentation: Petrov et al., in prep. • AMBER Data Reduction: Tatulli et al., in prep. • AMBER optical design: Robbe et al., in prep.

  9. AMBER GTO • 87 proposals, 600h of UTs, 1300h of ATs • 90h of GTO already used -> reshuffle • New GTO has been issued -> Large Program • Accepted by ESO • Publications made with initial 90h will be signed by all AMBER consortium members todate • Following GTO publications will be signed by at least all 5 laboratories (name will alternate).

  10. AMBER Data reduction • A paper has been written with principles, estimators and illustration • Amdlib is almost completed: there is a final rewriting for maintenance purpose. It will be delivered as a final product • Data reduction will continue within JMMC • A school is organized in June 2006 in Goutelas with other VLTI instruments • Mailing list exists…
