  3. Aims of Year 2 • Independence • Participation & social skills • Cursive handwriting • Literacy Skills Development • Numeracy Skills Development • Developing mental maths strategies & reasoning • Wider reading skills – 8 Reading Behaviours • Transition to the Juniors

  4. Class Topics Autumn term – Glitter and Glow Spring term – Take a Trip in a Time Machine (Changes) Summer term – Journey with Us Over Land, Sea, Air and Space

Working Together • Welcome pack to be given out in September • Reading – weekly reading (up to 3 times when possible) and regular reading at home • Maths homework • Spelling words homework • HWB • Lining up • P.E kit for P.E and Games lessons (Wednesdays & Fridays) • Sharing information or concerns your child may have

  6. Working With Others • P.C. Hinds (Personal Safety) • Fire Service Visit (Fire Safety) • Phil Bowen (Poet) • Educational Trips

  10. Weekly Spelling Lists Spelling words will be differentiated Spelling activities – suggested multisensory activities to support learning the words at home Need to learn the patterns, families etc so spelling words are applied in independent writing High frequency words also need to be learned

  12. National Tests • May 2018 • 1 Reading Test Paper (Comprehension) • 1 Numeracy Procedural paper • 1 Numeracy Reasoning Paper • Information online (www.learning.gov.wales)
