Why do we need a Peer Support Specialist when we have medical staff? • Peers can offer participants important information with added credibility because they have “been there, done that.” • Participants can benefit from seeing people like themselves in positions in leadership and strive for those positions as well. • Can engage with a high-risk population that is normally hard to reach, and connect them with needed services and resources. • “I made it out, you can too.”
