  1. Action Plan for Families You and your family have taken a first step towards healthier living. Here’s a plan to get started on your family’s commitment to the Soda Free Sundays pledge . . . Complete the Soda Free challenge. Step 1: Get educated on sugary drinks! Start by reading the “Sugary Drinks 101.” Step 2: Talk to your family about what you know about sugary drinks and why you are all taking the Soda Free Sundays pledge. For younger children, teaching them which drinks are nutritious and will help them grow can enhance the development of their drinking/eating habits. For older children, you may choose to discuss the impact of sugary drinks on their health. Step 3: Introduce more healthy drinks in your household. Recognize that soda and other sugary drinks are everywhere– they are easily accessible, cheap and heavily advertised – and make a family commitment to drink healthy beverages like water and low-fat milk at home, school and work. Pack drinks such as a reusable water bottle in kids’ lunches. Step 4: Be sure to mark off “Soda Free Sundays” on your calendar at home and remind each other that Sunday is a soda and sugary drink-free day. www.hydrateforhealth.org

  2. Keep the Soda Free pledge going. YOU can keep your commitment to being soda free on Sundays going. Soda Free Sundays is a FIRST STEP toward making your family a little healthier— here are some ideas for taking that next step: ✓Successful so far with your Soda Free Sundays pledge? Add one more day to your commitment— try going soda free on Saturday AND Sunday to cut back even more of your sugary drink consumption. ✓Going soda free on Sundays not work for you? Maybe you prefer to have a sugary drink treat on Sunday, but find it easier to remain sugary drink free during the week. Use Soda Free Sundays as an opportunity to think through your approach to drinking healthy beverages and do what works best for you and your family. ✓Talk to your workplace, your children’s schools and policy makers about creating a space where sugary drink options are fewer and healthier drink options are greater. Help make King County and our community a healthier place to live. Action Plan for Families www.hydrateforhealth.org
