  3. Everything started in 1620 when the group of 102 people called later ‘PILGRIMS’ made a difficult trip across the ocean from England to ‘NewWorld’ They made their new home in what is now Plymouth in Massachusettst

  4. The Pilgrims came to America in search of religious freedom

  5. The ship they sailed on was called TheMayflower

  6. Many of the pilgrims died during their first winter in North America. They were cold and did not have enough food. They did not expect that winter would come so quickly.

  7. The following year, though, the Native Americans, who were from the Wampanoag tribe, helped them grow crops, taught the Pilgrims how to use plants for medicine.

  8. By November 1621 the newcomers had plenty of food. To thank the Indians they invited them to special dinner to celebrate their friendship The Wampanoags brought their families. This was over 90 people. There were so many people that the Pilgrims did not have enough food to make the meal, so the Wampanoags brought along their own food for the feast.

  10. The Thanksgiving holiday is a four-day holiday over the weekend. Families and friends usually eat a special meal together, remember the Pilgrimsand thank God for all good things they were given.
