  2. Who we are KU Leuven Department of Mechanical Engineering Division of Production engineering, Machine design and Automation (PMA) Noise and Vibration Research Group (MOD) Research staff 5 academic, 1 associated academic, 1 industrial research manager 9 postdoctoral researchers 3 Marie Curie ER + 3 vacancies  1 IWT OZM, 1 IWT IM 44 PhD, 5 res., 10 industrial PhD.  2 IWT Baekeland  8 bilateral industrial PhD’s 10 Marie Curie ESR + 3 vacancies Since the year 2000: hosted 44 ESR/ER Fellows and seconded 2 Fellows in IAPP Areas of research identification and analysis of dynamic systems active noise and vibration control numerical modelling (vibro-acoustics, aero-acoustics, multi-body, mechatronics) intelligent lightweight structures vehicle mechatronics

  3. What are Marie Curie Actions

  4. What are Marie Curie Actions (FP7) ITN  PhD – ESR (ER) IAPP  postdoc – ER (ESR)

  5. What are Marie Curie Actions (FP7) ITN IAPP Transfer of knowledge Intersectoral mobility via long term secondments Junior, senior, technical staff • Training of PhD’s • Intersectoralmobilityvia double hosting and/or short term secondments • Industrial PhD’s • Full training program (scientific, applied, transferable)

  6. On-going EU (Marie Curie) projects • 11 Marie Curie ITN/EID/IAPP projects running/under negotiation • 8 ITN (2 as coordinator) • 1 EID (1 as coordinator) • 2 IAPP (1 as coordinator) • For a full list of ongoing and past projects: http://www.mech.kuleuven.be/mod/projects

  7. FP7 ITN MID-FREQUENCY • FP7 ITN MID-FREQUENCY (no. 214909), 01/10/2008 – 31/09/2012 • Main Topic: Mid-frequency vibro-acoustic simulation tools • Development of enhanced mid-frequency simulation methods • Benchmarking on academic and semi-industrial cases • Validation on industrial automotive and aerospace applications • Website: http://www.midfrequency.org • Project Partners: (12 partners – 8 countries) • Universities: K.U.Leuven (coord.: Wim Desmet, Bert Pluymers), ENSCachan, Univ. Cambridge, ECL, INSA Lyon, KTH, SAPIENZA Rome, ISVR • R&D Institutes: ViF • Industrial partners: EADS Astrium ST, LMS, Daimler

  8. FP7 ITN MID-FREQUENCY • Recruited 19 ESR’s and 4 ER’s • 15 different nationalities (Brazilian(2), Chinese, Colombian, Czech, Egyptian, French(2), German, Greek, Indian, Italian(6), Romanian, South Korean, Spanish, Tunisian, Turkish)

  9. FP7 IAPP TIRE-DYN • FP7 IAPP TIRE-DYN (no. 251211), 01/09/2010 – 31/08/2014 • Main Topic: Experimental and Numerical Analyses of the Dynamic Behavior of Rolling Tires in order to Improve the Tire Modeling Accuracy • Development of appropriate test procedures for tire dynamics • Validation of complex numerical models • Development of simplified numerical models • Website: http://www.tiredyn.org • Project Partners: (3 partners – 2 countries) • Universities: K.U.Leuven (coord.: Wim Desmet, Paul Sas, Bert Pluymers) • Industry: LMS, Goodyear

  10. MCA supporting postdocs in industry • strong interaction industry-research centres-academia is looked for • relevant university partners • relevant industrial partners and active involvement • industrial PhD’s (now emphasized with EID) • clearly stipulated training/ToKprogramme and strong transferable skills programme via Doctoral School and applied training via on site industry training • ‘clearly’ and ‘detailed’, yet sufficient flexibility in view of Fellow’s profile/training needs (PhD research is difficult to plan) • training of the Fellow is a crucial project outcome • 100% funding, also for industry • initiate long-lasting relationships follow-up projects • with network partners • with Fellows!! • organizations and Fellows can get to know each other without long term commitments  often resulting in a successful continuation • added value of inter-sectoral PhD’s is strongly acknowledged by both sectors • mobility of researchers  opportunities for both Fellows and organizations

  11. Acknowledgements We gratefully acknowledge the European Commission for its support of the Marie Curie program, including the running FP7 Marie Curie ITN projects MID-FREQUENCY, VECOM, IMESCON, FLOWAIRS, ANADE, GRESIMO and the FP7 Marie Curie IAPP projects TIRE-DYN and INTERACTIVE
