Programmes • Fellows: young physicists and engineers (from junior engineers to post-doctoral research physicists) from member states, normally staying two years. • Graduate Engineering Training: Programme introduced in 2009 to leverage engineering training opportunities at CERN. • Scientific Associates: senior scientists spending at CERN up to one year. • Corresponding Associates: senior scientists from all but the largest four member states, spending at CERN up to six months. • Project Associates: physicists, engineers and technicians sent to CERN by their home institution for periods up to three years (five years for LHC completion). • Students: several sub-programmes, catering for different seniority levels (from undergraduates to Ph.D. candidates) and offering different durations (from 2-3 months for Summer Students, up to 3 years for Doctoral Students). • Special Programmes: externally-funded initiatives enabling additional researchers to participate in CERN programmes.

Summer Student Programme Fields physics, engineering, computing Length 8 to 13 weeks, during the summer Eligibility 3 years of full-time studies at university level Features high-quality lecture programme visits and workshops living allowance Application & Selection Deadline January. Technical Student Programme Fields applied physics, engineering, computing Length 6 to 12 months for technical students Eligibility 18 months of technical undergraduate studies Features a real technical project with a CERN supervisor a living allowance Application & Selection 2 Committees : April& Nov “It’s a great place to start a career, it’s a great place to learn new skills, make new friends…”

Doctoral Student Programme Fields applied physics, engineering, computing Length 3 years Eligibility enrolled on a doctoral programme in a Member State university Features a real PhD thesis project with a CERN supervisor & university supervisor a living allowance Application & Selection 2 Committees : April & Nov “Gave me the opportunity to meet important people, especially in the research fields”

Length Usually 2 years (max 3) Eligibility BSc, MSc or PhD (max 10yrs experience) Features Career Development Programme Project with a CERN supervisor Employment Contract Application & Selection 2 Committees : May & Nov “An ideal place to follow the most recent ideas in physics and start new collaborations”

Associates Paid Scientific Associatesexperienced individuals on leave of absence mainly in physics up to 24 months Corresponding Associatesexperienced individuals from smaller Member States on leave of absence mainly in physics up to 6 months Project Associatesphysicists, engineers and technicians invited by Departments up to 3 years Unpaid Associatesincludes trainees (ES, PT, FR) and short-term Marie Curie students according to special agreements
