  3. Annual Competitive Grants ProgramTime Table • December 1st Formal announcement of Request for Proposals • February 1st Proposals due to WERC office • March 15th Proposals ranked and submitted to Director’s Office for formal approval • June 10th Formal agreements with grantees in place

Annual Competitive Grants ProgramPriority Areas • Maintaining the economic competitiveness of hardwood industries. • Bringing information and technology to businesses emerging wood products businesses. - manufacturing & processing - marketing & business-related skills - urban wood utilization, utilization options to improve forest health & stewardship • Addressing global issues and assisting communities and industries facing threats from invasive species, such as the Emerald ash borer. • Increasing the use of woody biomass for domestic energy use.

Annual Competitive Grants ProgramMonitoring & Follow-up • Focused on accountability • NA monitors: Rob Clark – DFO Al Steele – MFO Tom Dilley/Ed Cesa/Al Steele – SPFO Lew McCreery – Biomass-related projects Ed Cesa – keys projects that interact directly with WERC • Region 8 monitor: George Hernandez (was Dave Hoge)

Annual Competitive Grants ProgramFinal reports on-line • Work closely with GAAM staff in regards to extensions, revise scope of works, annual performance reports, financial reports • Final reports are reviewed and approved by WERC staff - reviewed closely in regards to meeting grant objectives • Key objective is to have final reports on-line available to WERC customers.
