AARST’s National Policy Work In 2014, AARST hired a Lobbyist, Randy Pence, working Capitol Hill In 2015 we hired Jane Malone, as National Policy Director Developing A Congressional Radon Caucus to Expand Existing Authority Where Appropriate Introducing State and Federal Legislation As Necessary ICC/IRC – Working on Radon Codes Radon Professionals – Working Together – Saving Lives

  26. Cancer Survivors Against Radon • They are founding members of CanSAR • They all had/have STAGE 3 LUNG CANCER • Most Never Smoked • Most of These People are now deceased • 21,000 Americans (on average), die of radon induced lung cancer each year AARST Radon Professionals Saving Lives

Representation – Randy Pence • ARPC Ad Funds support Randy and Jane • $60,000 a year • AARST is leading the conversation, no longer following. • 2016 ARPC Commitments are now at $36,500. Supporting AARST and ARPC • America should have 35,000 Radon Professionals • We have about 5,000 Radon Professionals • 2900 are AARST-NRPP • ARPC and AARST are the only policy vehicle generating radon policy change that is economically driven. COIRA In September, AARST signed a Letter of Intent along with three other radon associations to form the Coalition of International Radon Associations (COIRA) AARST – American Association of Radon Scientists & Technologists CARST – Canadian Association of Radon Scientists & Technologists ERA –European Radon Association UK Radon Association Future: Scandinavian Radon Association, Asian (NORM) We agreed to collaborate on projects that are mutually beneficial to all members of COIRA.

Radon Intercomparisons Work ongoing to reestablish “radon reference” at EPA’s Montgomery facility Work with other members of COIRA to develop a routine network of international intercomparisons It is imperative that all radon measurements be tied to a defensible reference nationally and worldwide. Because of the nature of radon being short-lived, agreement among laboratories and calibration facilities must be accomplished through routine intercomparisons.
