Naviance • College info, scholarship database, career information • https://student.naviance.com/fchs • Scholarship list with college scholarship/financial aid websites, local scholarships, corporate scholarships • Major scholarship info will be e-mailed through Naviance • College search engine, admissions data, resume builder • Sign-up for college rep visits to FC (limit of 4 per student) • Students can reset password at website

  3. SAT and ACT • Should my student retest? • Role test plays (some schools are test optional) • How do colleges view multiple test scores? • How are test scores sent to colleges? • If student selects FC as high school, scores will be sent to us and placed on transcript • Some colleges require scores to be sent directly through SAT or ACT account and won’t accept them from the transcript • Student should always send score(s) directly to the colleges • Student can choose colleges to receive scores during ACT/SAT registration

Advanced Placement • AP Exam Scores– sent in July to the colleges designated on answer sheet at time of AP exam in May; this is cumulative, so scores are sent each year the student takes an AP exam. • AP scores are not posted on transcripts; can be found through College Board account and e-mailed to student in July; apscore.collegeboard.org

Fee Waivers Students on free/reduced lunch, 21st Century Scholars, and foster children can receive fee waivers • ACT/SAT – no more than 2 waivers total for each test • College Application fee waivers ~Fee waivers may be submitted through student’s College Board account (SAT) ~Also, by following the application prompts ~Also, by submitting a fee waiver obtained through a counselor

  7. Timeline • When to apply? • Early! Mid-August to Fall Break • Before fall break for priority/scholarship deadlines (Nov. 1 or Nov. 15 for most schools) • Students must be accepted by college first before being considered for financial aid.

  9. Parchment continued • Go to www.parchment.com and create a student account. • Do NOT use your school email. Use a personal email. • Make certain you are sending your transcript fromFranklin Centralto __(receiving entity)_____________. • Students do not need to complete the profile in order to send a transcript but it will help Parchment provide more info • Transcripts can be sent to colleges, employers, scholarships, NCAA • No cost to student throughout senior year. • Student can log in to Parchment account to check status of transcript

Common Application • https://www.commonapp.org/ • One application used to apply to multiple colleges • Supplemental information is required for some colleges to complete the application • Requires separate application fees for each college • Student required to invite counselor to complete secondary school report; some schools require student to invite teacher to complete recommendation • Accepted by over 700 colleges nationwide, including IU, Purdue, UIndy, Butler, Notre Dame, IUPUI, and others in Indiana (full list available at site) • Student must send transcript from Parchment to Common Application using Common App ID

Teacher Recommendations • Complete student resume on Naviance and print out resume to give to teachers • Give teachers 2 weeks to write • Ask teachers to mail directly to college or submit to counselor • Follow through with teachers – “thank you” note or e-mail • Schools prefer recommendation from academic teacher • Most schools don’t require letter of recommendation

  15. Counselor Recommendations • Naviance resume • Senior conference (we will start meeting with all of our seniors individually in mid-August) • Any important information that could influence admissions decision (medical issue, financial need) • Not required for most schools

The Essay • Have counselor or English teacher read before final draft • Make it personal • Not all colleges require essay • Can be used to give explanation of poor grades in a semester due to personal situations “And this student model is programmed with the answers to 500 popular essay questions.”
