  1. For Channel & Internal Use Only For Channel Partner • Introduction of • Samsung Advanced Toner* • (Polymerized Toner) 2010.07.14 IT Solution Business Enterprise Sales & Marketing Group Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd.

  2. For Channel & Internal Use Only • What is Polymerized Toner? • Benefits of Polymerized Toner • Overview & Summary • High Image Quality • Gloss & Color Gamut Range Improvement • Less Power Consumption • Reduction of Paper Curl • Higher Durability • Reduced Consumable Size • Eco-friendly Manufacturing Process Contents

  3. What is Polymerized Toner?

  4. What is Polymerized Toner? Polymerized Toner vs. Conventional Toner Conventional Toner : Plastic materials (resin, pigment, wax) are melted together and then cooled into a brick, which is mechanically crushed to form non-uniform toner particles. Polymerized Toner : Toner particles are grown in water using a chemical reaction (aggregation) where we can control the size of the particles, producing smaller uniform toner particles. • Polymerized Toner Conventional toner VS Resin Small, uniform, round toner particles Various, non-uniform, jagged toner particles Pigment Wax Size : 6~7㎛ Size : 8~9㎛ Pigment Latex Wax Melt Mixing Brick Emulsion Grinding / Jetting Aggregation Crushing Classification Coarse / Fine * ㎛ =1/1,000 mm, (Human Hair =100 to 120 ㎛)

  5. Benefits of Polymerized Toner

  6. Benefits of Polymerized Toner Overview & Summary • Small and uniform toner particles make sharper images andlines - improving resolution. • The higher wax content of Polymerized Toner improves the image gloss and durability. • The printer transfers Polymerized Toner to the paper in a thinner uniform layer, which reduces the waste toner and requires a lower fusing temperature. (reducing power consumption) • Polymerized Toner is also eco-friendly because it’s manufacturing process emits less CO2 and uses less power. High Gloss Finish High Image Quality Less Power Consumption Long Lasting Durability Eco-friendly Manufacturing Process

  7. Benefits of Polymerized Toner • High Image Quality Small size (6.7 ㎛*) and spherical (circularity** of 0.972) toner particles distribute more uniformly, which results in better image resolution and accurate colors. • Samsung Polymerized Toner (6.7um, spherical) Polymerized Toner 50 Conventional Toner 40 Volume% 30 Conventional Toner (8~9um, non-spherical) 20 10 Size 0 4 12 16 8 0 20 * ㎛ =1/1,000 mm, human hair =100~120 ㎛ ** Circularity: the closer to “1”, the more perfect the sphere.

  8. Benefits of Polymerized Toner • Improved Gloss & Color Gamut Range Core and shell structure, and functional ingredients, improve the gloss and color Gamut range. • Improved Gloss • Toner powder of Core/Shell Structure b Shell Prints Core a Yellow • Expanded Color Gamut range Wax Red Green Pigment Conventional Toner Magenta Cyan CPT Blue

  9. Benefits of Polymerized Toner • Less Power Consumption High transfer efficiency creates a thin and uniform toner layer, which allows the printer to create less waste toner and to use a lower fusing temperature (reducing power consumption). • Polymerized Toner • (6 to 7 m, spherical) • Conventional toner • (8 to 9 m, non-spherical) • Fusing Temperature • Fusing Temperature ~ 175℃ 180 to 190℃ 3% to 9% lower

  10. Benefits of Polymerized Toner • Reduction of Paper Curl The fused layer of Chemically Produced Toner is 20% thinner than it is with conventional toner, and the wax layer is twice as thick. Both of these changes decrease paper curl, and reduce the possibility of paper jams occurring in the fuser section. • Improved Paper Curl vs. Conventional Toner • Polymerized Toner • Conventional Toner • Fuser Heating Roller 20%Thinner Layer Paper Curl Thicker Wax Layer Paper Thicker Toner Layer Wax Layer Wax Layer Pressure Roller Toner Layer Toner Layer

  11. Benefits of Polymerized Toner • Durability Outstanding durability from the improved fusing ability of Polymerized Toner, reduces the image destruction caused by folding the paper and sticking image to the back of piled document in preservation. • Wearing after folding prints • Polymerized Toner • Conventional Toner

  12. Benefits of Polymerized Toner • Eco-Friendly Manufacturing Process Manufacturing Polymerized Toner uses 35% less electricity compared to manufacturing conventional toner. This results in a significant reduction in CO2. Equipment Process 1.2 CO2emission 35% decrease 1 0.8 0.6 0.4 CO2 emission/Toner (Ratio) 0.2 0 Conventional Toner Polymerized Toner
