Description • The Amazon River is 6280 km long. • Located in North Eastern Brazil, Calillona, peru. • The worlds largest river in volume. • Has the highest amount of water flowing down it. • It is the widest river in the world and is 6 km wide. • Sometimes called The River Sea • It is never crossed by bridges • One fifth of the total volume of fresh water entering oceans world wide is from the Amazon River. • The river divides in to two main sections for long distances.

  3. Flooding • Not all of the river floods at the same time. • Some parts start flooding in November and continue to flood until June. • The height of the river in the rainy season is 130 feet, and the width is 40 km.

Species • More than one third of the worlds species live in the Amazon Rainforest. • It is the main habitat for the boto, and it is also known as the Amazon River Dolphin. • There is a famous myth from Brazil that the dolphin turns into a human at night. • The species consists of boto, piranha, bull shark, arapaima, arowana, and the anaconda.

Amazon River Dolphin • Also known as Bufeo, BuferoColoarado, boto, botarosa, boutu, nay, tonina or pink river dolphin. • Is a fresh water Dolphin. • This Dolphin is able to bend its neck in a 90 degrees angle, and hunt for fish in the flooded forest. • They have 20-30 peg-like front teeth for catching prey and it mainly eats Crustaceans, crabs, turtles, catfish and other fish.

  11. Myths • The myths of the Amazon River Dolphin are that at night they become a handsome young man who seduces girls, impregnates them, then returns to the river in the morning to become an Amazon River Dolphin again.

  12. History of the Amazon River • The Amazon river was first found because an European found the Amazon because he was 200 miles out to sea and noticed he was sailing in Fresh Water. • He then turned to towards the shore and then found the Amazon River. • Ships today still anchor in the outflow of the Amazon.
