  3. OIE Regional Commissions • Five Regional Commissions to express specific issues: • Africa 52 • Americas 30 • Asia, Far East and Oceania 36 • Europe 53 • Middle East 20 • The Regional Commissions are composed of the Delegates from the region and act as regional institutional bodies of the OIE

OIE Regional Commissions • The members of the Bureau of theRegionalCommissions – president, 2 vicepresidents and secretarygeneral are elected for a 3-year period • The current members of the Bureau were introduced and elected during the 80th General Session for a three-year term of office 2012-2015

The OIE Regional CommissionsBasic Texts • Terms of reference: • to hold Regional conferences • Examine regional issues • Produce recommendations • to contribute to strengthening the capacities of the Veterinary Services • to contribute to the harmonization: sanitary – trade • to increase the contribution of livestock in economies • to give an advisory opinion on the headquarters of the Regional Representation • to examine applications from Member Countries -Reference Centers

Meetings of the Regional Commissions during the OIE General Session • Opportunity for the members of the Regional Commission to meet and discuss: • The Bureau of the Regional Commission reports on their activities. • The Regional Representation and Sub-Regional Representations report on their activities. • Technical items are proposed. • Lessons learnt from the Conference of the Regional Commission are proposed: recommendations, next Conference. • Issues of regional relevance: priority diseases; GF-TADs; new Collaborating Centres proposed. • Financial aspects. • Direct interaction with the members of the Specialist Commissions and the OIE Headquarters. • Regional and International Organisations having signed a cooperation agreement with the OIE.

Conferences of the Regional Commissions • Each Regional Commission organises a Conference every two years in a country of the region. • These Conferences are devoted to technical items and regional cooperation for animal disease control. • The OIE 25th Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe took place in Fleesensee/Germany from September 18 to 21 2012. • 26th Regional Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe, 22-26 September 2014, Bern / Switzerland

Interaction with Regional and Sub-Regional Representations • The Regional Commission works closely with the Regional Representation (RR) and the Sub-Regional Representations (SRRs): • RR and SRRs participate in the meetings of the Bureau, particularly the regional meeting held during the General Session; • RR and SRRs support the Bureau in drafting the report; • RR and SRRs report to the Commission; • RR and SRRs participate in the preparation of the Regional Conference in collaboration with the Regional Activities Department.
