The Results • Original report gave the victory to Gore • Next report gave the victory to Bush with 85% of polls reporting • Gore cut the margin to only 2,000 votes, & eventually 300 – forcing a mandatory hand recount • Each time votes were recounted, margin got more narrow • Supreme Court ruled that the recount must cease (5-4 ruling)
