  1. Media of Bangladesh --- An Authentic Overview Bangladesh is an independent country and gained freedom in 1971 through a bloody war. After the emergence as an independent country, a wide variety of media has appeared and disappeared. At present, the media in Bangladesh refers to print, broadcast (Television and Radio) and Online Media. The media is free to work and this has been assured by the constitution. Here you will get an overview of the present situation of mass media in Bangladesh Interestingly, Bangladesh has two types of media – State-run and private. The number of State-run media is limited but the private media is on the rise. However, all the media houses try to publish and broadcast the authentic reports and news about multifarious issues. In fact, they are the eyes and ears of people. News Agencies had their footstep in the land even before the independence in 1971, and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) is the only state-owned news agency while the United News of Bangladesh (UNB) is the very first private and computerized news agency of the country. It was established in 1988. The print media of Bangladesh is enriched with different times of dailies, weeklies, biweeklies, quarterlies, and monthlies. They have appeal to all classes of people in the society. But the English newspapers are a bit different than the Bengali-language newspapers. They have appeal to some elite class and urban people. Television is the biggest source of entertainment of local people. There is a single state-owned channel named Bangladesh Television (BTV) is available. It has another initiative, which is popularly known as BTV World. The list of private channels is around 30 and the list will expand shortly. Some of the private channels are in the pipeline for broadcasting. Bangladesh Betar is the only state-run radio channel while there are 25 of the FM radio stations are operating inside the country with attractive programs and packages. Besides, some other private radio stations are coming soon. Moreover, there are some community radios are also operating their business in different parts of the country aiming to raise awareness among the community people. With the advancement of technology, internet-based news portals are also available in Bangladesh and they are doing very well. Updated news and information are available on those websites and people get to know the news and events instantly. Media in Bangladesh is playing an important role in the advancement of the country. Now, this is hard to hide something from media which was a common issue in previous decades. There are fewer chances now to create an anarchy in the country. The state is marching towards development and media plays an undeniable role here. It is undeniable that media plays a great role in the development of democracy in Bangladesh.
