  2. Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record In this section: • Recording series statements in analytic records • Priority order of sources • Inaccuracies • Numbering that is integral to the series title • Captions • Forms of numbering • Subseries

  3. Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record Series information as found on the piece will be recorded in the 490 field of the analytic bibliographic record. Title Proper of Series Sources of Information: Take the title proper of the series from the following sources: • Series title page… • …And then other sources in order of preference as stated in 2.2.2 RDA 2.12.2.2

Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record RDA 2.2.2 If the resource consists of one or more pages, leaves, sheets, or cards … or images of these things, use the title page, title sheet, or title card (or image thereof) as the preferred source of information. In the case that there is no title page, the LCPS in 2.2.2 directs us to use the first of the following bearing a title: a) Cover or image of cover b) Caption or image of caption c) Masthead or image of masthead d) Colophon or image of colophon

Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record RDA 1.7.9 Inaccuracies Instructions on Recording Series Statements (2.12.1) and Recording Title Proper of Series (2.12.2.3) point us to RDA instruction 1.7.9 in the case of inaccuracies: Inaccuracies When instructed to transcribe an element as it appears on the source of information, transcribe an inaccuracy or a misspelled word as it appears on the source, except where instructed otherwise.

So how should we record both the inaccurate form and the corrected form in the analytic bibliographic record?

Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record RDA 2.20.2.4 Inaccuracies RDA instruction 2.20.2.4, Note on Title / Title Variations, Inaccuracies and Deletions: If an inaccuracy in a title has been transcribed as it appears on the source of information when recording a title, make a note giving the corrected form of the title if it is considered to be important for identification or access. Include a 500 note in the bibliographic record for the analytic.

Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record Numbering that is integral to the series title Instruction 2.12.2.3, Recording Title Proper of Series If the resource is issued in a series, record the title proper of the series applying the basic instructions on recording titles given under 2.3.1… If the title proper of the series includes numbering as an integral part of the title, transcribe the numbering as part of the title proper of the series.

Apply the General Guidelines on Transcription found in 1.7 Do not capitalize a term that is part of the series numbering unless the instructions in appendix A appropriate to the language involved require capitalization.

RDA 2.12.9.3

Recording the Information Found:The Analytic Bibliographic Record RDA 1.8.2 Form of numbering and how to record it Instruction 1.8.2, Form of Numerals Record numerals in the form preferred by the agency creating the data, unless the substitution would make the numbering less clear. PCC and LC will apply the first alternative to 1.8.2: Record numerals in the form in which they appear on the source of information. Note that numbers expressed as words are treated differently from numbers expressed as numerals.

RDA 2.12.2.3, Recording Title Proper of Series, instructs: If the resource is issued in a series, record the title proper of the series applying the basic instructions on recording titles given under 2.3.1
