  2. Nickname and Region in the U.S.A • The nickname of our state is The First State or The Diamond State. • Our state’s region is the Mid Atlantic.

  3. Capital City, Major Cities and Population • Our state’s capital city is Dover. • Major cities are Wilmington, Newark, Bear, Middle town and Brookside. • The population of Delaware is 897,934people.

  5. Government • The current governor of Delaware is Jack A. Markell. • The current senators of Delaware are Thomas Carper and Chris Coons.

  6. Borders and Geography • The borders of Delaware are : New Jersey, Atlantic ocean, Maryland, and, Pennsylvania. • What our geography is like…. • It has the lowest elevation of any state. It has beaches and swamps. There are swamps, fertile plains ,fresh ponds , rivers and forests.

  7. Agriculture/Farming • Delaware would be good for agriculture/farming because there are dairy farms in the North. The fertile plains grow items such as soybeans ,corn, peach's, potatoes and peas.

  8. History • Delaware became a state on December, 7th 1787, the first state. • In 1631 the Dutch built the first settlement ,it was destroyed a year later. • In 1829 The Chesapeake and Delaware canal opens. • In 2002 Delaware passes ‘’The Clean Indoor Air Act” banning smoking in public places.

  9. Colleges/University and Places to Visit • Colleges in Delaware are Godley Beacon college in Wilmington and Delaware University of , Newark. • Places to visit are Rehoboth Beach to cool off and swim for fun with friends and family and Bombay Hook National wildlife refuge, Delaware.

Additional Facts • Fact 1 Delaware lies along the Atlantic ocean. • Fact 2 Forest covers about a third of Delaware. • Fact 3 Snapping Turtles are found in the swamps. • Fact 4 The broad Delaware River is the states larges and most important river. • Fact 5 Deer, mink ,otter , rabbits , red and grey foxes live in Delaware fields and forests. • Fact 6 Nylon was first developed in Delaware in 1938.
