PROMOTION to 7th GRADE To be promoted to 7th grade: • You must have an overall average of 70 or higher in all courses. • You must also have an overall average of 70 or higher in 3 of the 4 core subject areas: • English and Reading • Math • Science • Social Studies Students who do not meet these requirements must either attend summer school or repeat the 6th grade.

  3. Materials • Letter to your parent(s) with Pre Ap Commitment • Course Selection Sheet – Due Feb.1st to Science Teacher • Course catalog • See Junior High Section • Also available at www.katyisd.org

  4. 7th grade Overview • Same Bell Schedule • 1 Elective • Opportunity to participate in team sports

  5. Course Requests Overview • Course sheets must be turned in to Science Teacher by Thurs. Feb 1st • If you are moving or planning to move, you must fill it out anyway. • Both the student and parent must sign the course sheet. • All students must sign up for the following courses: 1. English 2. Reading 3. Math 4. Social Studies 5. Science 6. PE or Athletics 7. One elective and three alternate elective

  8. Math Reading • Moving from Academic to Pre AP Math • The same as skipping a full year of math! • Math Lab • Required if you fail Math STAAR • 7th grade Pre AP/GT English & reading combined – onlyfor students currently in GT English & GT Reading • Strategic Reading • Required if you fail Reading STAAR

Pre AP Courses • Good grades to stay in A’s & B’s • A’s in Academic Course to get in • To move into Pre AP Math additional criteria as determined by the district • Positive attitude • Willing to work hard and study hard • Great organizational skills • Good study habits and good work habits • YOU MUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!

  10. GT Courses • Mark a GT Course ONLY if you are currently enrolled in the 6th grade equivalent of that course. • If you are currently being screened for GT, sign up for Pre AP. • GT English and Reading are combined into one class.

  11. PE or ATHLETICS • Boys’ PE/Girls’ PE • Athletics • Coaches make the final decision • Counselors cannot change schedules without coaches approval • No Pass/No Play • Physical Required • Football • Volleyball • Soccer • Basketball • Track and Field • Tennis

Summary • Course Selection Worksheet Due Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018to your Science teacher • Talk with your parents about your choices – you must have a parent signature! • Choose 3 alternate electives – or an alternate will be chosen for you! • Be responsible! Be organized! Be prepared for 7th grade – academically and behaviorally! • Keep your course selection sheet neat and clean. Take good care of it! (use a pencil)
