First Level Support Implementation and Training • Start 12.2018 – End 06.2019 – ON-GOING • 1.1 Documentation review (MEC-Rfdbk), analysis of resources required. • Start 12.2018 – End 01.2019 – done • 1.2 Documentation preparation (MEC-Rfdbk) • Start 01.2019 – End 02.2019 – done • Some documentation has already been loaded to the WG5 Repository • NEXT (by the end of April) • 1.3 Preparation of a complete example set of data (one season, one model) to be used • Start 01.2019 – End 02.2019 –on-going • 1.4 Training provided by DWD experts for first level support to the PST • Start 03.2019 – End 03.2019 • - Slight delay due to scheduling conflicts, but details have been already discussed; will take place between 09-11 April 2019 ICCARUS WG5 meeting, 21 March 2019

First Level Support Implementation and Training Start 12.2018 – End 06.2019 – ON-GOING • NEXT STEPS: • 1.5 Implementation of the MEC-Rfdbk system @NMA and @HNMS. • Start 03.2019 – End 05.2019 • 1.6 Adaptation of scripts for the production of the CP requirements • Start 05.2019 – End 06.2019 • 1.7 Setup of web interface with the use of Shiny R routines on COSMO server • Start 05.2019 – End 06.2019 • Contributors: • A. Iriza-Burca (NMA), F. Gofa (HNMS), B. Maco (NMA), F. Fundel (DWD), R. Potthast (DWD), E. Bauernschubert (DWD), D. Boucouvala (HNMS), T. Andreadis (HNMS) • Task 2. PP C2I • Implementation and Initial Testing of ICON-LAM in NMA • Compiling of ICON model and ICON_TOOLS (done) • Set-up of ICON-LAM for Romanian territory – initial testing (done) • ICON-LAM-7km: initial and LBC data from ICON global (same data used for operational COSMO-7km) • ICON-LAM-2.8km: initial and LBC data from ICON global (same data used for operational COSMO-7km) • ICON-LAM-2.8km: initial and LBC data from ICON-LAM-7km • Tests for slightly smaller domains than COSMO-7km and COSMO-2.8km operational • Running the ICON-LAM just for a few test cases ICCARUS 2019 – Offenbach, 18 – 22 March 2019

PP C2I • Set-Up for Pre-Operational Activity of ICON-LAM in NMA • Set-up of ICON-LAM for Romanian territory at 7 km resolution on a similar (slightly larger) domain as the operational COSMO-7km • Initial and LBC data from ICON global (same as operational COSMO-7km), 00UTC run • Tried a few variants for integration domain (done) • Tests with different types of output files (done) • Running the ICON-LAM-7km for January 2019 (some severe weather situations) (done) • Comparing the results with COSMO-7km operational run (on-going) • Visualization (on-going) • Post-processing (will begin as soon as possible) • Verification (will begin as soon as possible) ICCARUS 2019 – Offenbach, 18 – 22 March 2019

PP C2I • Set-Up for Pre-Operational Activity of ICON-LAM in NMA • due to limited computational resources, tests were only performed on our back-up machine until now • new HPC expected around summer At present, ICON-LAM-7km is implemented in NMA, first tests are performed and we are almost ready for pre-operationalization (parallel with COSMO-7km for assessment) – also depending on the computing resources available.
