  2. . The US Department of state is usually referred to as the state department. It is the cabinet-level foreign affairs agency of the US government and deals with all foreign activities

  4. Date Established Established on July 21st, 1789 as the Department of Foreign Affairs, and signed into law by Washington on July 27th

  5. Bureau of African Affairs • In the US Government, the Bureau of African is charged with advising the Secretary of State on matters of Sub-Saharan Africa. The bureau was established in 1958. It is headed by the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs, who is currently Jendayi Frazer.

  6. Bureau of Intelligence and Research • The Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) is tasked with analyzing information. Originally founded as the Research and Analysis Branch of the Office of Strategic Services and transferred to the State Department at the end of World War II. The Bureau of Intelligence and Research is part of the American Intelligence Community, of which there are 16 branches. The current number of employees and its budget is classified.

  7. Office of the Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs • The Office of the Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, headed by Dr. Paula J. Dobriansky, coordinates U.S. foreign relations on a variety of global issues, including democracy, human rights, and labor; environment, oceans, health and science; population, refugees, and migration; women's issues; and trafficking in persons and avian and pandemic influenza.

  8. Bureau of International Organization Affairs • The Bureau of International Organization Affairs (IO) creates and executes U.S. policy in the United Nations and other international organizations. As of 2005, it is headed by Assistant Secretary Kristen Silverberg.

  10. Executive branch activity • The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor leads the U.S. efforts to promote democracy, protect human rights and international religious freedom, and advance labor rights globally.

  11. Bender v. Williamsport Area School District 1986 • A group of high school students wanted to hold meeting for their club, which advocated "spiritual growth and positive attitudes in the lives of its members, during their school's activity period. The District Court ruled in the students' favor, and the school complied with the ruling. A member of the school board, Youngman objected to the court's decision and filed an appeal. The Court of Appeals held that he did not have an appeal because he had no involvement or was in no way affected by the decision.
