  3. If we don’t act… • Many potential adverse consequences for health including: • Environmental degradation • Loss of greenspace & biodiversity • Climate change impacts • Resource shortage • Unequal access to resources • Social stresses

  6. climate change health scenarios • Increase in mean UK annual temperature of c. 2.5-30C by end of century • Cold periods less common, heat waves more common • Periods of sudden heavy rain • Increase flood risk • Vector-borne disease impact uncertain • Possibility of malaria - other European countries • Warmer summers • Possible increase in food-borne disease • Air pollution • Many pollutants will decline, but ozone concentration may rise DH & HPA.   9. StF health indicators are also our priorities • Health Inequality: • Infant Mortality & Life Expectancy • Mortality Rates • Circulatory disease, Cancer, Suicides • Smoking • Childhood Obesity • Diet • And we still have some way to go in WM

Action on obesity • Focus on children includes: • Better data – measurement • Healthy start • Healthy schools -supportive environment • Healthy school meals • Physical activity • Targeted interventions in primary care and other settings • Reduced car use & reduced consumption • Save resources and reduce emissions • But will it do enough?
