  2. お盆は先祖（ぜんぞ）の霊（れい）を供養（くよう＝memorial service)する行事で7月15日を中心に行われます。地方では8月15日ごろに行うところが多いです。 The Bon events, which are centered around July 15, are memorial services for the spirits of the ancestors.In the outlying regions of Japan, they take place more commonly around August 15.

  19. Many people who attend universities or work at companies in big cities like Tokyo and Osaka take holidays around the Obon and the New Year holidays, and go back to their hometowns. The train stations and airports in every region are extremely crowded during this time. 東京や大阪など大都市(だいとし)の大学で勉強したり会社に勤(つと)めたりしている人は、お盆のころと年末(ねんまつ)年始(ねんし)に休みをとって故郷(こきょう)に帰ることが多いです。各地(かくち)の駅や空港はこの時期たいへん混雑(こんざつ)します。
