  2. What is “Doom Metal” • Doom metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal music. • Characteristics include:Slow tempoTuned down guitars with a “Heavy” SoundLyrics based on despair and dread.

  3. Why I love Doom Metal • The music is personal, introspective, and individual. • It’s not the kind of music you share. • Some would say it’s “Music for depressed people who aren’t doing anything about it” • The music doesn’t try and sell itself.

  4. Origin of Doom Metal • Pioneered by bands like Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus • Style remained very distinct and unheard of throughout the 70’s

  5. New Wave of Doom • The late 80’s and early 90’s saw an outbreak of Doom metal bands. • Anathema, My Dying Bride, and Paradise Lost in the UK • Novembers Doom, Wretched, and Acid Bath from USA

  6. Creation of other genres • Around the time the new wave of doom began, many bands took the fundamentals of Doom and made spin off genres. • Stoner, Drone, Atmospheric, Black, Death, Gothic, Sludge, and Funeral Doom were all heavily influenced by Doom Metal.

  8. In Conclusion • Doom metal is a genre that has spawned many genres on its own and has maintained its sincerity for years.
