  2. Warm-Up 1 • Between you & your elbow buddy, locate a piece of paper. At the top, write all 10 vocabulary words. • Write the first sentence of a story using 1 of the words. • Pass it back. • Take the new sheet, add the 2nd sentence to that story using one of the other words. • Etc….

  3. To Do • Read pgs. 853-865 • Add to culture chart • Find at least 1 of each of the following: • Homeric simile - personification • simile - epithet • metaphor - imagery

  4. “Father and Son” • After the punctuation test: • Add this episode to your chart • Answer questions 1 & 5 on p. 866 • Find 2 literary elements (simile, metaphor, personification, epic simile, epithet, irony, foreshadowing) • Complete reunion journal

  12. War Poems • “Charge of the Light Brigade” • Positive or Negative? • analyze spin together

  13. Poem with Partner • Pick a poem • “The Man He Killed” • “Rendezvous” • “Dulce Et Decorum Est” • “In Flanders Fields” • Pick a partner • Read poem & analyze spin. Is it a positive or negative portrayal? Find 3 words or phrases that make it seem so.

  14. On Your Own • Locate a depiction of war – movie, song, poem, story, etc. • Summarize the depiction • Determine the overall spin – positive or negative • Find 3 examples of this spin • In your opinion, how should we view war and how should we treat those who served in them?
