  3. How did it get its name? • This is the LARGEST butterfly on the planet!!! • Females can reach 14 inches from wingtip to wingtip, while male can reach 11-12 inches from wingtip to wingtip. The Queen Alexandra’s BirdwingwasnamedafterQueenAlexandra, whodiedin 1952.

  4. What is its behavior like? • They are illegally collected by many people, then sold for anywhere near $10,000 • People are going to jail because of collecting and killing this magnificent butterfly The insects are usually seen high above the treetops, but only when the sun shines. Otherwise the moisture from the forest would make their wings very heavy. A female Queen Alexandra's Birdwing is gliding through the warm air at a breathtakingly fast pace.

  5. IUCN red list says that the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing is Endangered. (Though They posted this in 1996, so it probably isn’t accurate.) Though The Alexandra’s Birdwing Is Decreasing Rapidly Due To Murder For Money Illegally.

  6. Difference Between Male And Female: Females are much duller in color Males are much brighter in color

  7. Diet: A caterpillar, it feeds on its own eggshell immediately after hatching. Then it feeds on the Aristolochia plant (Aristolochia schlecteri). This plant contains a poisonous substance that when digested makes the caterpillar become deadly to predators as long as they will live. The adult will feed on the liquid nectar of flowers.

  8. No one seems to know much I tried to find things like Parental Care, and Reproductive Characteristics, but nobody knows because no one seems to know much about the butterflies physical life. People only seem to know about what the butterflies look like, but not much about what their actual life is like, because they are so endangered.
