  2. Sea lions are pinnipeds. Which means fin foot. Sea-lions are marine mammals. Meaning they are not like fish but they are like us humans and need air to breathe and feed their young with milk, and have fur of a sort.

  3. KINGDOM:Animalia • PHYLUM:Chordata • CLASS:Mammalia • ORDER:Pinnipedia • FAMILY:Otariidae • The genus species varies from each species of sea-lions.

  4. Basics • Males grow to about 6.5 to 11 feet, and females about 4 to 6 feet. • Males weight from 440 to 2,200 pounds, and females 110 to 600 pounds. The size and weight varies from species to species.

  5. Cont. • Sea lions usually live about 20 to 30 years. • Their pregnancies last 8 to 11 months. • Usually only one pup is born at birth. The odd time 2.

  6. Meal Time • Sea-lions are carnivores. Which means they eat meat. • They eat squids fish ect, even seals the odd time. • Most of the food is swallowed whole.

  7. Predators • 3 main predators. • Humans, sharks, and killer wales/orcas.

  8. Sad Fact • Many species of sea-lions were almost hunted to extinction. BUT WHY! THEY ARE SO CUTE!

  9. Mainly for their pelts and oils. • some people even used their whiskers for pipe cleaners. Now international laws protect many of the sea-lion populations. Allowing the increase of population one again.

  10. Deep Diving • Sea-lions can dive up to 600ft or 180 meters. • They can hold their breath up to 8 to 20 minutes. • They can swim to speeds of 40 km/h or 25 miles to escape predators.

  11. Cool Facts • A group of sea-lions in the water is called a raft. • Sea-lions do not need to drink water. They get all their water from the food they eat. • High tolerance to carbon dioxide. Concentrated oxygen in heart. Which allows them to dive so deep.

  12. Super Awesome Cool Fact • Sea-lions are trained to be used in the marines. The sea-lions are used to dive down and detect underwater land mines, and also for equipment recovery.

  13. Friends • Sea-lions are very social creatures. • Males form groups called harems.
