  2. What's the Issue? -Civil wars in Somalia are causing locals to resort to piracy

  3. Where's the Issue? -the problem lies in Somalia, Eritrea, and parts of Ethiopia -the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean are bodies of water that are affected by piracy

  4. Statistics on Somali Pirates -Since 2003, pirate attacks have steadily declined -Somali pirates have made a profit of $50 million in 2008 -In 2008, there were 111 reported attacks from Somali pirates -In 2009, there were 541 reported attacks from Somali pirates so far

  5. Why Should We Care? -Many of the boats attacked by pirates contain a vast supply of weapons -Many of the attacks have been concentrated in the Red Sea, which is right next to Iraq where American soldiers are stationed

  6. What Are the Locals Doing About It? -The local Somali government are instating laws that prohibit interference with other ships -There has also been a lot of protesting

  7. What Are We Doing About It? -American soldiers in Iraq are crossing the Red Sea to assist Somali locals against the pirates
