  1. Jason Hilsenbeck LoadMatch & Drayage.com President – Founder Vice President - Intermodal Association of Chicago Ocean Chassis Pool Survey - 2012Intermodal Association of ChicagoOctober 1, 2012 Presentation

  2. Ocean Chassis Pool Survey - 2012 • 224 unique drayage operations were emailed • draymen were listed on the LoadMatch Drayage Directory website as serving Chicago intermodal rail terminals, based in IL, IN, MI, OH, WI, ON • 504 individual emails were sent to those in dispatch, operations, management • 76 total responses • 39 filled out from first email request. • 37 more filled out after second email request

  3. When your driver arrives to pull a 20/40’ container…

  4. Grounded or Wheeled terminal operations?

  5. In general, how would you rate each of the intermodal ramp terminals for 2012? Which terminals do the best or worse at getting your drivers in & out for all container/trailer types? BNSF–LPC/Elwood 66% Good rating (of 76) UP–Global IV /Joliet 63% Good rating(of 72) ---------------------------------- NS–Landers 54% Bad rating (of 70) CN–Harvey 78% Bad rating (of 74)

  6. Final Thoughts • U.S. is only place where chassis are provided to drayage truckers (Canada, Europe, everywhere else, drayage truckers bring their own wheels to pull containers) • If both railroads AND draymen prefer wheeled ramps…how do we get the ramp operator to stop placing bad chassis next to ramp track? • Government regulation of pool chassis? • Create a ‘placement interchange’ like a J1 so ramp lift operator guarantees they placed a container onto a good chassis?
