  3. Membership • Class 2011 • 19 members • Class 2012 • 19 members • Class 2013 • 19 members • Class 2014 • 19 members

  4. Member selection • Applications are sent at the beginning of spring to the top 20% of the class • Membership eligibility/acceptance is based solely on academic standing • Continued membership is based solely on community service • Members are required to do 12 hours of community service a year • Most members greatly exceed this!

  5. Initiation April 14, 2011 • 19 new members were initiated into the Sigma Sigma Phi attendance • Jesua Law, the 2010-2011 president of the Theta Chapter, spoke about the expectations and requirements of membership • Our meeting took place at Baxter’s Grill • At this meeting new members learned about the planned community service projects and voted on the 2011-2012 officers for SSP

Service Activities • Eugene Fields Health Fair (Spring 2011) • Eugene Fields is a poverty stricken school in the metropolitan area with 99% of the students qualify for the free lunch program • Vision booth: performed vision screens and provided vision information to students about taking care of their eyes • Also a sock, underwear, and T-shirt distribution table

  7. Service Activities • Rural Health Fair (Sep. 24, 2011) • Sigma Sigma Phi worked in cooperation with SOMA and the Rural Medicine club to provide health screening stations at the annual Creek County fair.

  8. Service Activities • OSU-CHS Scrub run (Spring 2011) • Sigma Sigma Phi, in conjunction with SOMA, hold an annual 10Km, 5Km and “fun” 1Km run every spring • Scrub run volunteers include: • Race marshals • Drink/fruit distributers • OMM • Money raised is to support Life Share, a transplant organization in Oklahoma promoting tissue and organ donation

  9. Service Activities • Oklahoma Blood Institute blood drive: • Scheduled for November 18th 2011 • Last year 40+ units of blood were collected • We hope to do better this year

Academic Activities • Welcome to Medical School Power point: • Annual tradition for the new Sigma Sigma Phi • Power point is a collection of study strategies, tips and a ranking of class resources based on usefulness and presented the first week of school to the new class at OSU-COM. • The goal is to help reduce anxiety for our incoming class of students • First year teaching assistants: • Most of our members are Anatomy, Histology or OMM tutors

Academic Activities • “Welcome to Second Semester Power Point” • “Second year power point” • A presentation, similar in nature to the “First Year,” was given by Jesua Law to the entire class of second year students. This presentation also included tips about upcoming rotation scheduling and Boards study. • Neuroanatomy study tip emails and tutoring for first years.

  13. Individual Volunteering • Individual volunteering is strongly recommended outside of a sponsored event • All of our members regularly volunteer in various other community activities throughout our area.
