  3. Why should women join ? • How did you become a member? • Who honoredyou by asking to to join? • What does DKG mean to you? We need to think about these questions before we begin to ask others to join our society.

  4. What is your job as membership chair ? or what have I gotten myself into? (I know some of you are thinking that) NOT TO WORRY – the little yellow book to the rescue!

  5. Maintain membership data – member profiles (form 50) • Encourage members to bring guests to meetings • Membership dues – help treasurer retain members • Be a role model for chapter relationships • Examples of membership benefits –share at meetings • Re-inspire, re-build, re-affirm – sustaining our pride in DKG • Seek support when chapter is in distress • Honor deceased members – at a chapter meeting, form 6 • Identify, invite, initiate new members • Problem solve membership issues

  6. Icebreakers • Roll call questions tied to program topic. • One word of purpose to each person then form a phrase. (monthly) • Shoe-story of the shoe tied to your life. • Cookies with recipe and have a cookie walk. • Brag time: brag $ to a fund. • Eat food and socialize before meetings • Personally meeting with others • Bagging welcome packs – informal conversations • Rules chair – poses ? (to support fundraising) • Name tags for all members (what you teach/taught) • Mini- report about yourself • Personal contact – phone call about meetings • Bring an object from home that tells about you. • Sit at tables related to an interest.

  7. Welcome to day 2  My 2 truths and a lie: • I swam with King penguins. • I went zip lining in Costa Rica. • I performed my friend’s wedding. • I rode a roller coaster in the middle of a marathon.

  9. Share your “homework” With your table mates share how you joined DKG.

  10. Its all about members • Getting new members – initiation • Collecting dues • Keeping members • Meeting members needs – planning a variety of programs • Celebrating members • Accomplishments/talents • Years in DKG • Necrology

  11. Opportunities for members • Remind them what their dues can do for them. • Scholarships • Leadership opportunities • Seminars/ Conferences • Networking with other educators

  12. What does your chapter do to keep members and gain new ones? Brainstorm at your table, please.

  14. New recruits • Use the orientation guide to share the benefits of DKG membership. • Share personal stories of DKG moments from chapter member. • Brag about what your chapter has done – awards/ service projects • Give them a mentor and a job ( get them involved right away)

  15. Forms All are on the www.dkg.org site. Form 50 – member profile Form 80 – chapter profile Form 82 – member biographical data (?) Form 6 – death of a member Form 2 – chapter necrology report– Feb 1st Form 11 – recommendation for membership Form 36 – biennial membership report All forms can be emailed or mailed to the proper member.
