He/she then stands at one end of the playing area. • The other players stand in a line at the other end. • Monsieur le Loup turns his/her back to commence play. • The players call out, Quelle heureest-il Monsieur le loup ? and Monsieur le Loup turns and answers with a time (i.e. ilest 3 heures…3 o'clock). • He/she then turns his/her back again while the other players advance again chanting Quelle heureest-il Monsieur le loup ? to which Monsieur le loupwill continue to respond until the players come very close.

  4. Les règles du jeu (rules)Quelle heure est-il Monsieur le loup ? • Once the line of players is close to Monsieur le loup , he/she can respond to the chant with Attention, il est midi, j’ai faim, miam miam ! (It’s lunch time, I’m hungry, Yum yum! ) • At which point, he/she will chase the players back to the starting line with the aim to catch one of them, who will then become Monsieur le loup for the next round of the game.

  6. Les règles du jeu (rules)Poissons, pêcheurs • Divide the players into 2 groups (with a smaller group containing about 1/3 of all players) • The smaller group of players form a large circle, joining hands. They are the fishermen (les pêcheurs ). • The biggest group of players are spread around the outside of the circle. They are the fish (les poissons ). • Ask the fish to cover their ears and get the fishermen to agree on a signal when they will lower their net. If working on numbers in French, from 1 to 20, the fishermen could all agree to count up to 12, for instance (the game can also be played with the fishermen singing a song and agreeing on a word when they lower the net, or chanting days of the week / months of the year …)

  7. Les règles du jeu (rules) Poissons, pêcheurs • The fishermen all raise their joined hands up high, forming a big net (le filet ). They instruct the fish to start coming in and out of the net (underneath their arms) then start counting aloud from 1 to 20. • When the fishermen reach their agreed number or word, they all bring their arms down together • All the fish who remain inside the circle have been fished out and have to join the group of fishermen. • The process is repeated until all the fish have been caught, or one pupil remains to win the game!
