  3. How is it a Lifetime Sport??? • All age groups • Fun, Fun, Fun • Beneficial for health • Good Workout • Taught in Schools • Team or Individual • Skills used in everyday life • - reaction time • - co-ordination

  4. Good activity for a secondary school setting??? • Team Game – good social aspects • Equipment • Health & Fitness - other sports or everyday life • Healthy Competition

  5. Badminton Terminology... Equipment & Court Shots • Drop shot • Wood shot • Overhead clear shot • Drive shot • Smash shot • Kill • Backhand • Alley - Area around the court 1-1/2 ft • Shuttlecock - shuttle, bird, birdie. • Racquet • Baseline – back boundary line • Short service line- go past to be legal • Long service line – drop before to be legal.

Scoring System – - Men play to 15 - Women play to 11 - Best of three games - Match point tie? - Only win points off serve Serving and Receiving- - Even = R service court - Odd = L service court Lets – when is there a let? When is the shuttle not in play? Faults – when is a fault made?

  8. History of Badminton... • Where did it all begin? • - China – shuttlecock kicking • - British Soldiers in Badminton • Started in 1873 • Continued to get more popular • Not a full medal sport till 1988
