MathematicsCommon Core GPS • December 2010 – Mathematics educators can offer feedback by emailing their recommendations and comments to: Jessica Jetton at jjetton@doe.k12.ga.us • January 2011 – K-HS Precision Review Teams will convene to make recommendations for Mathematics CCGPS. • February 2011 – Precision Review Team recommendations will be vetted by RESA Mathematics Mentors and the K-12 Mathematics Advisory Council.

Precision Review Team Members • Approximately 500 K-12 mathematics educators volunteered to serve as Precision Review team members. • Team members selected include teachers, along with school and district level leadership. • Team members will include at least one grade band member from each of the 13 Congressional Districts.

Secondary Assessment Transition • Amend State Board of Education rule to remove high school graduation test as a requirement for graduation effective for freshman entering high school in the school year 2011/2012 and beyond. • Permit students currently in high school the option of passing an EOCT in each of the four content areas or passing the corresponding test of GHSGT. • The GHSWT will remain a requirement until the adoption of a state-led and designed common assessment, which will incorporate the elements of the GHSWT. • Amend the weighting requirement of the EOCT to twenty-five (25%) percent of the student course grade for freshman entering high school in the year 2011-2012 and beyond.

PARCC Consortium • Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers – 26 states; Georgia is one of 13 governing states • Awarded Race to the Top assessment funds by the US Department of Education to develop a K-12 assessment system aligned with the CCSS • Primary goal is to help states dramatically increase the number of students who graduate high school ready for college and careers.

Fourth Mathematics Course OptionsTraining Opportunities • Mathematics of Industry and Government • Eight day sessions scheduled for June 13-16 and • June 27-30, 2011 • Participation – approximately 60 • Honorariums provided • Travel expenses paid • Training to be held at GaDOE in the West Tower • Participant Obligations – selection to be made • by the Mathematics Mentors at each RESA

  13. Interventions for the Classes of 2012 and 2013

Interventions forthe Classes of 2012 and 2013 • Mathematics Support III is a tier 2 intervention & is offered for core credit. • Students who successfully complete Mathematics I, Mathematics II, Mathematics Support III, and Mathematics III will have satisfied the mathematics requirements for graduation.

Interventions forthe Classes of 2012 and 2013 Under discussion: • Mathematics Support I and Mathematics Support II may be treated as elective or core courses. • Students who take four years of math and successfully complete Mathematics I and Mathematics II will have satisfied the minimum math requirements for graduation.
