  1. Bible Study, February 9, 2011 Apostle Ronald C. Hill Studies in Genesis 2:1-9

  2. Genesis 2: 1-3 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.  Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  3. Genesis 2: 1-3 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  4. Genesis 2: 1-3  2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  5. Genesis 2:1-3 God rested from His creative activity on the seventh day. This is not the “rest” that follows weariness, but the rest of satisfaction and completion of a job well done. Although, God did not command man to keep the Sabbath at this time, He taught the principle of one day of rest in seven.

  6. Genesis 2: 4 2:4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,  Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  7. Another name for God is introduced in Verse 4. The Lord, (Hebrew Yahweh or Jehovah), where as Elohim is the general name for God, emphasizing His greatness and power. The name “Lord” is the personal and covenant name by which God reveals Himself to His own people.

  8. Inherent in the revelation of God’s covenant name is His loving kindness, His redemptive concern for the human race, and His closeness to and faithful presence with His people.

  9. Genesis 2: 5,6 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.  Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  10. Genesis 2: 5,6 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  11. These two verses describe conditions on the earth when the dry land appeared, but before vegetation appeared. At that time the earth was watered by a mist rather than by rain.

  12. Genesis 2: 7 Genesis 2:7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  13. A. In this verse a broader account of the creation of man is given. The giving of life to human beings is described as the result of a special act of God in distinction from the creation of all other living things. God spoke and created everything else, but when it came to man God said “let us make man in our image, after our likeness Genesis 1:26

  14. 1) When God breathes into man’s nostrils the breath of life, at the same instant there was an infusion of the human spirit, with it’s moral, intellectual, relational and spiritual capacities. The breath of life makes humans distinct from all others creatures

  15. 2) From the dust of the ground implies that there is nothing fancy about the chemical elements making up our bodies. The name Adam means “red or ground”, he was named after the red earth from which he was made.

  16. 3) The body is a lifeless shell until God brings it alive with His sprit. The human beings’ life stands higher and in a different category from all other forms of life and there is a unique relationship of divine existence to human life.

  17. 4) When God removes His life giving breath, our bodies once again return to dust. Therefore, the value of life comes from God.

  18. Some people boast of their achievements and abilities as though they were the originator of their own strength; others boast about how they look.

  19. People spend a lot of time and money pampering the sack of dirt that they live in. Most people show more concern for their body than for their souls.

  20. Romans 1: 24,25 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:  Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  21. Romans 1: 24,25 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  22. In America many people worship the body more than they worship the God who created the body. We worship the athletes who play sports. Playing sports and watching sports is another way satan has led people to waste time and money.

  23. Definition of Athlete: A person possessing the natural or acquired traits necessary for physical exercise of sport.

  24. Does it not amaze you how people are more excited about what people can accomplish with their bodies, but the same people will find fault with us when we worship and praise the God who made the athlete and everything else that exist.

  25. One hundred and eleven million (111,000,000) people watched the Super Bowl Game last Sunday. I wonder how many of them will be found giving God praise this coming Sunday?

  26. Ask yourself a question: What do you spend the most time on, Your body or Your soul?

  27. Studies in Genesis 2:1-9 The way you answer that question will convey the level of your spirituality.

  28. Genesis 2: 8 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  29. The garden was located near the Tigris and Euphrates flood plain.

  30. Genesis 2: 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  31. There were two trees in the garden that had special importance. First “The Tree of Life” was probably intended to make physical death impossible.

  32. Genesis 3: 22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:  Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  33. Revelations 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  34. Gods’ people will have access to the tree of life in the new heaven and new earth.

  35. Revelations 22: 2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Studies in Genesis 2: 1-9

  36. The second important tree was the “Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil”. This tree was designed to test Adam’s faith and obedience. The Second important tree….
